At Milk in central Reading, live music sits alongside a busy programme of DJs, comedy and tasting events. The independent cocktail bar regularly gives its intimate setting over to musicians and live performers. Its current listings include solo performers, swing, jazz and band nights, showing a varied approach to programming.

Milk employs local artists to perform live music, helping live performance sit naturally within Reading’s wider cultural scene. The venue has taken part in Reading’s Are You Listening? Festival, as well as part of Soka Fest, and it’s own Milk My Words event has combined live music with poetry and DJs. As a result, the programme reaches beyond straightforward gigs and into collaborative music-led events.

DJs form another important strand of the music programme. Milk’s organisers describe an atmosphere shaped by DJs, while individual nights explore different styles and selections. For example, The Blend has featured dub, ska, funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, indie and electronica.

Away from the stage, Milk specialises in artisan spirits and handcrafted cocktails. Its selection covers rum, mezcal, tequila, whisky, bourbon, gin and vodka, alongside locally brewed craft ales. Regular spirit tastings add another element to the calendar. Therefore, drinks and events work together rather than feeling like separate parts of the venue.

The bar is tucked away near Reading railway station, making it a central option for an evening of music and cocktails. However, the programme changes from date to date. Check the venue listings for the latest live music nights, DJs and ticketed events.
